Industrial Placement

Industrial Placements

Biomedic is an integrated training program combining courses and direct exposure to clinicians and the medical device industry. To build your professional skills and to appreciate the objectives, you will spend some time in an industrial setting.

Industrial placements are with a local, national or international medical device industry and over a period of 4 weeks for MASc students / 4 months for PhD students you will be exposed to:

  • Medical Device Design & Development
  • Regulatory Processes
  • Clinical Trials
  • Fundraising for Start-ups
  • Aspects of the Start-up Process

You will be asked to observe and report on industry practices and write a medical device-related standard operating procedure (SOP) according to ISO13485, and to present to your peers during the weekly SBME seminar series.

Companies that have taken part in the Industrial Placements to date are: Visualsonics (Toronto); Halifax Biomedical (Mabou); Thorasys (Halifax); Orthopaedic Innovation Centre (Winnipeg)
